The brief

Festivals run on spreadsheets, group chats and a different app for every job: one for the stage schedule, one for press, one for fans. FestOps was built to put the whole weekend in one place, with a front door that looks like the festival, not like us.

Because it is our own product, it is also the clearest example of how the studio works: short daily cycles, real users early, and a design that changes when the data says so.

What shipped

  • Staff apps for stages, run-of-show, bulletins and press, in a night-ops dark look
  • A fan app that installs on any phone with the lineup, quests, badges and points
  • A themed front door per festival, imported from the festival's own website by a Theme Studio
  • A 'site plan' marketing site: drafting-paper background, blueprint grid, contour-map art, a run-of-show rail and the explainer video in the hero
  • A public blog and licence plans on the marketing site
  • Ticket linking: a fan who buys a ticket for the first festival on the platform links it to their account and earns a badge and points; the lineup mirrors in automatically every 15 minutes

How it was built

A Node and Express backend on Postgres serves a Vite and React progressive web app. Each festival is a tenant with its own theme, so the same code powers very different-looking front doors.

It moved from a project under our site to its own domain, festops.net, with every old URL redirecting to the new home.

Where it stands

  • The first real festival is running on the platform with live ticket linking
  • A two-minute animated explainer, rendered from code, sits in the hero
  • The same per-tenant theming engine is available to client builds

One lesson

Build the product on your own festival first. Every rough edge we hit as the operator became a fix before a customer saw it.
