The brief
A founder with a real teaching community and a prototype that could not take money safely, verify members, or pay mentors their share without a spreadsheet.
The platform had to feel like a haven, not a SaaS dashboard: a place for artists who are done collecting unfinished loops.
What shipped
- The Grove: a members' home with courses, a library, a journal and a treasure chest of resources
- 1-on-1 mentorship and three-hour training tracks, bookable and paid on the site
- A community where members share tracks and get feedback, plus a gig board and an artist directory
- Stripe Connect: one checkout, with each sale split automatically between the academy, the mentor and the platform
- Sign-in with email verification, password reset, and Google sign-in ready to switch on
- A workshop page and payment links the founder can edit without a developer
How it was built
The payment plumbing was consolidated onto one Stripe account so webhooks, payouts and reporting all agree; stale endpoints on an older account were retired rather than patched.
Mail went down twice on an upstream password change; each time the fix shipped the same day with the test logged, and a purge job now clears signups that never verify.
Revenue sharing is a rule in code, not a monthly chore: the split runs on every webhook and the ledger shows who earned what.
Where it stands
- Members can join, learn, book a mentor and pay in one place
- Every sale is split and paid out automatically
- The founder runs the school from the site itself, including workshop offers and prices
One lesson
A marketplace lives or dies on the money path. Get checkout, verification and payouts right first; the beautiful parts are only trusted once those are boring.
